Spring Parks Cleanup Day – April 26
The Town of Jay invites community members of all ages and abilities to lend a hand in beautifying our parks during a Spring Volunteer Day on Saturday, April 26, from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. Volunteers will gather at four locations across the town’s three hamlets:
- Wells Memorial Library in Upper Jay (12230 Route 9N)
- Douglas Memorial Park in Jay (Covered Bridge Road)
- Children’s Playground in Jay (Randy’s Lane)
- Community Garden in Au Sable Forks (Grove Road)
This is a great opportunity to get outside, meet neighbors, and help spruce up some of our town’s most cherished spaces. No experience is necessary—all ages and abilities are welcome. Tools, snacks, and beverages will be provided. Just bring your enthusiasm and willingness to pitch in!
New Funding for ADU Projects
Exciting news for homeowners: The North Country Rural Development Coalition (NRDC) and the Essex County Land Bank have secured $1.5 million to help residents build or renovate Accessory Dwelling Units (ADUs)—including garage apartments, in-law suites, and rental cottages. This marks the first ADU program in the North Country, and it’s a significant step forward in addressing our region’s housing challenges.
To learn more, contact NRDC at info@northcountryruraldevelopment.org or call (518) 585-6366.
Town of Jay Achieves Bronze Climate Smart Certification
The Town of Jay has officially earned Bronze Certified Climate Smart Community status from the NYS Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC). This achievement, led by our Climate Smart Task Force chaired by Councilman Sauer, reflects months of dedicated planning and implementation to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and strengthen community resilience.
So far, this effort has brought in over $70,000 in grant funding, supporting key initiatives such as:
- Installation of heat pumps at the Senior Center
- Insulation of steam pipes at the Community Center
- Upcoming construction of a solar array at the Highway Garage
We’re proud to continue moving forward with sustainable, cost-saving solutions for our town.
As always, thank you for staying engaged and involved. Wishing everyone a wonderful weekend and a Happy Easter!
Matt.
