Emergency Incident Training for Elected Officials
This week, I joined several Essex County Supervisors at the Essex County Public Safety Building in Lewis for Tier 3 training—an emergency incident training session for elected officials. This course, led by the Department of Homeland Security and Emergency Services (DHSES), covered all stages of an incident, including planning, response, recovery, and mitigation. We also discussed available resources for training and emergency response, the importance of hazard mitigation planning, and how and when to declare a State of Emergency. Additionally, we reviewed past incidents and shared valuable insights on preparedness and response strategies. A big thank you to Essex County Emergency Services for organizing this important training opportunity.
Warmer Weather and River Conditions
While in Lewis, we also discussed the upcoming warm weather and its potential impact on our town. The Ausable River still has sections of undisturbed ice, while other areas have ice jams. With temperatures expected to reach nearly 70 degrees this weekend—leading to about 1.5” of snowmelt runoff—and approximately 1” of rain forecasted for Sunday, we will be closely monitoring river conditions. Please stay vigilant and aware of your surroundings as ice moves out. We will provide updates as needed.
Grove Road Repairs Moving Forward
At last night’s monthly board meeting—available online if you missed it—Town of Jay Highway Superintendent Chris Sorrell provided an update on Grove Road. This week, the Jersey barriers we ordered arrived, along with 1” plate steel from Essex County DPW. Barring any unforeseen delays, the highway crew plans to begin installing the temporary, one-lane repair recommended by the engineering study we approved in December. Once completed, Grove Road will have a posted with a 5-ton weight limit and will not be accessible to large trucks. We will share an announcement when the work is finished.
Have a Great Weekend!
As always, I appreciate your engagement and support. Stay safe, enjoy the warm weather, and have a great weekend!
Matt.
