United Way Cow Kissing Fundraiser
This week, I had the pleasure of attending the United Way of the Adirondack Region’s Cow Kissing Fundraiser Valentine’s Day event at the Miner’s Institute in Chazy. This fundraiser supports ALICE/homelessness prevention services. The United Way has been an invaluable partner to the Town of Jay, particularly during our Long Term Recovery efforts after the February 2022 flooding in Au Sable Forks. Sharing a moment with a beautiful Holstein cow made the day even more memorable!
Monthly Town Board Meeting Highlights
At our Monthly Town Board meeting last night, we approved several important budgeted purchases, including a new Water/Sewer truck, a dump trailer for our parks, a sander for a highway truck, and Jersey Barriers. Chris Sorrell presented engineering plans for a temporary fix to Grove Road, which will utilize these barriers, new signage, and road plating from Essex County DPW to manage the newly posted 5-ton limit and ensure safety. We also discussed updates on several ongoing projects and an exciting new initiative: Lindsey Kellet’s request to use Community Center rooms for a youth gymnastics program. The board approved a short-term agreement to pilot this as a business incubator space, a promising step for our community’s growth!
Improving Cell Phone Coverage in the Region
During the Essex County Board of Supervisors meeting on Wednesday, the Lake Champlain Lake George Regional Planning Board (LCLGRPB) presented on improving cell phone coverage in our area. I emphasized that reliable coverage is no longer a convenience but a safety necessity. The LCLGRPB will use grant funds to purchase speed data from Ookla, the Speedtest App operator. I encourage everyone to download the Speedtest App on your devices and run it frequently to help build a comprehensive data pool for our town. Learn more here: https://www.speedtest.net/apps/mobile
Winter Storm and Road Safety Reminder
Lastly, with storms expected this weekend and into next week, please travel safely and allow extra time for your journeys. The current road salt shortage is affecting the Town of Jay and nearby towns, so we are conserving usage. Stay safe!
Wishing you all a wonderful weekend,
Matt
