This past weekend, I had the honor of attending the Upper Jay Fire Department’s Annual Awards Banquet. It was a privilege to recognize the extraordinary efforts of our local heroes. This year’s award recipients include:

  • Firefighter of the Year: Tim Clark Jr.
  • Most Dedicated: Lynzee Tefoe
  • Most Improved: Marty Guglielmo

Milestones for service:

  • Bert Drake: 5 years
  • Shawn Leclair: 15 years
  • Alex Santo, Brooke Sorrell, and Chris Sorrell: 20 years
  • Lee Torrance: 45 years

Special recognition went to those who responded to the most calls:

  • Shawn Leclair (1st)
  • Lee Torrance (2nd)
  • Nick Nelson (3rd)

I extend my heartfelt thanks to all of our emergency personnel in the Town of Jay for their unwavering dedication and service to our community.

Last week, we held the 2025 Organizational Town Board Meeting, where we:

  • Approved annual contracts and board/supervisor appointments.
  • Authorized payments as outlined in the 2025 budget.
  • Discussed proposed updates to our policy manual, including a Sick Hour Bank, a Clothing Allowance Policy, and increased Longevity Payments. These policies will be drafted and presented at upcoming meetings.

Additionally, our department heads and committees delivered their reports, and I provided my monthly update. A video recording of this meeting is available on our website under “Meeting Minutes” for those who couldn’t attend.

As part of our work on the Comprehensive Plan, we’ve identified the need for a Social Services Committee to better support our residents. Modeled after Essex County’s Human Services Committee, this initiative will focus on enhancing communication about services and volunteer opportunities in areas such as:

  • Youth and Senior Programs
  • Public Health and Mental Health Services
  • Social Services

If you’re interested in volunteering for this committee, please contact my office. Together, we can strengthen our community and provide vital support where it’s needed most.

I hope you all have a great week!
Matt
