Happy New Year!
It’s been a fantastic holiday season for the Town of Jay, and we’re thrilled to share some exciting news:
Grant Awards Totaling $900,000!
- CDBG Housing Rehabilitation Grant: We were awarded a $300,000 Community Development Block Grant (CDBG), submitted on our behalf by the North Country Rural Development Coalition (NRDC). In the coming months, the NRDC will provide details about eligibility and application requirements for interested residents.
- WQIP Sand/Salt Shed Grant: We also received a $600,000 Water Quality Improvement Project (WQIP) grant. These funds will be used to construct a new Sand/Salt Shed at the highway garage on Valley Road. This project will help reduce salt use and ensure our sand stockpile remains dry, improving its effectiveness during storms.
Community Center Upgrades
The gym at the Community Center saw a big improvement this week with the installation of stage curtains! While the window curtains arrived in the wrong length and will take a few weeks to return, the stage curtains already offer a glimpse of the space’s refreshed look. These additions will:
- Dampen noise echoes during gym activities.
- Block light, allowing us to resume showing movies during the senior lunch program.
This upgrade is funded by occupancy tax revenue and a donation from the Missing Children’s Tournament. With the gym’s increasing use, reservations are now required and can be made through my office up to two weeks in advance.
