Weekly Update:
This past week I was busy with Paul Benway from the Parks Department resurfacing the Grove Soccer Field. We spread three loads of top soil and tilled it into the entire field. Once the field was dragged and rolled, Essex County Soil and Water Conservation District hydro-seeded the area over two days, as seen in the attached picture. The weather is perfect to help the grass grow prior to the start of the Town of Black Brook/Jay Youth Commission Soccer season. Registration is now open for youth soccer at: https://docs.google.com/…/1FAIpQLSdIH3J0PH01Td…/viewform . If you are 14 years or older, we will be looking for referees this fall. A mandatory training is required (8/7, 8/14 or 8/15 6:00-8:30pm) through the Clinton County Youth Bureau at 518-565-4774 or by emailing Nicholas.Arnold@clintoncountygov.com .
Last Wednesday was our monthly Town of Jay, NY Town Board Meeting. The board was given the usual updates for the projects taking place in town. As projects are updated, you can view these updates on our website at: https://www.townofjayny.gov/community-projects/ . We also awarded bids for the Wastewater Treatment Plant upgrades which will be funded in part by a DEC grant. Various bids are due on August 5th for our Comprehensive Plan, sidewalk replacement, and Village Green lighting installation to be awarded during the August meeting. The video of this meeting is on our website to watch at your convenience.
The 25th annual IRONMAN Lake Placid is this Sunday, July 21st. This year, the bike course will see more of the Town of Jay. The bike course will turn right at the 4 corners in Jay and take the competitors across the only remaining Covered Bridge in the Adirondacks. Once across the bridge, the route will go along the path in Douglas Memorial Park, under the Glen Road bridge to Randy’s Way. At Stickney Bridge Road, the course will traverse the agricultural landscape to Stickney Bridge which will be closed to traffic from 7:00am to 4:00pm. The bikers will return to the 4 corners via NYS Route 9N. This is an incredible opportunity for competitors and spectators to enjoy some of the vistas the Town of Jay has to offer in hope of a return visit to our growing business and agricultural community. Hope you have a great week,
Matt.
