Last week we held our Regular Monthly Board meeting at the Community Center, which is now uploaded online on the meeting minutes page on our website.  We passed two resolutions which will allow the Town of Jay to apply for some grant funds.  The first being the CDBG Housing grant was discussed in the public hearing prior to the meeting and will allow us to help 3-5 residents repair their primary home.  The second grant we are applying for is the DEC WQIP grant to build a new salt/sand shed at the highway garage.  We agreed to install a heat pump which will regulate the heat better in our Senior Center and provide for a cooling location during heat waves like what we are currently experiencing.  We also passed a resolution to go out to bid to replace some sidewalks in Au Sable Forks.  The final business we passed that evening was to appoint Chris Sorrell as the Highway Superintendent.  This will allow him to fill the position with an additional employee so he can focus on running the department.

The new ramp has been poured at the Community Center.  This week the stairs and surrounding sidewalks will be poured.  The railing has been ordered and will be installed by the end of July.  This week the lift to the second floor will be inspected and opened to the public.  Finally, the electronic door openers will be installed to make our Community Center fully ADA Compliant.  The entire project will be completed by the end of the summer with no cost coming from local tax levy!

Lastly, the Town of Jay Community Center and Offices will be closed tomorrow in observance of Juneteenth, Freedom Day.  We will reopen on Thursday morning for normal hours.  Please take care of each other and check on your neighbors during this heatwave we are in the midst of.  I believe it is safe to say, summer weather is finally here!

Hope you have a great week,

Matt.
