I would like to thank everyone who made the Town of Jay’s 225th Anniversary and 4th of July Celebration a huge success.  I had a blast getting pied in the face during the activities as seen below.   I would like to thank the Jay Volunteer Fire Department, Rotary Club of Au Sable Valley, and all of the volunteers who put countless hours into the planning and execution of this day.  I would also like to thank all of the businesses and individuals who donated to fully pay for the fireworks display.  The musical performances were made possible with funds from the Statewide Community Regrants Program, a regrant program of the New York State Council on the Arts with the support of the Office of the Governor and the New York State Legislature and administered by the Adirondack Lakes Center for the Arts.

This past weekend, the hamlet of Au Sable Forks welcomed athletes from Ontario, Quebec, Pennsylvania, and New York to compete in the 61st annual Men’s Fast Pitch Tournament.  Mother Nature was kind and let the 8 team field compete between raindrops and even get the finals in before the skies opened up on Sunday evening.  This coming weekend, the softball field will be busy again as the Fast Pitch Association revives the old Fireman’s Slow Pitch Tournament with a 10 team, double elimination tournament which begins Friday evening.

Lastly, my office has started identifying the Vacation Rentals, otherwise known as Short Term Rentals (STRs) around town.   After talking with my colleagues at the county level, I realized it is required, by local law, for any Hotel or Motel (this includes any facility or structure that provides lodging on an overnight basis, STRs included) to register with the Essex County Treasurer to pay occupancy tax.  We will soon be sending correspondence to those locations that are not registered with the county to help them avoid any interest or penalties they may incur.  For your convenience, a registration form can be found at: https://www.co.essex.ny.us/downloads/RoomOccupancyTaxRegistrationForm2020.pdf

Hope you have a great week,

Matt.
