On Saturday, the Town of Jay received over 5 ½ inches of rain and the AuSable River crested at almost 9 feet.  We decided to close Carey Road and Grove Road due to flood waters over the roadway.  Sunday morning, as the water receded, we were able to open Carey Road.  However, on Grove Road, we noticed a culvert failed and the road had been undermined near 680 Grove Road (See attached picture).  Several dirt roads in the town, including AuSable Acres, needed repairs due to minor washouts.  The Town of Jay Highway Department did an incredible job monitoring the roads on Saturday and quickly jumping into action on Sunday morning to make necessary repairs.  Grove Road will be closed near 680 Grove Road until engineering and DEC permitting can be obtained to repair the culvert and road damage.  Thank you to the employees of the Town of Jay Highway Department for their dedication and hard work on a holiday weekend.

A press release went out this week stating that the Town of Jay has been designated a Clean Energy Community.  This has come as part of the work the Town of Jay has done with NYSERDA and the Climate Smart Communities Program.  The Town of Jay Climate Smart Task Force is continuing to build upon this success with 2 ongoing community campaigns, community solar and heat pump installations.  There are grants that come with each task we complete.  We have been awarded $5000 in funding so far that we are placing in a clean energy fund.  We plan to use this money to perform an energy audit of the Community Center.  The articles which contain this press release can be found in the Press Republican at: https://www.pressrepublican.com/news/town-of-jay-designated-a-clean-energy-community/article_56f16e2a-6312-11ee-aca8-87b4aaa0a0d8.html or the Adirondack Daily Enterprise: https://www.adirondackdailyenterprise.com/news/local-news/2023/10/jay-designated-a-clean-energy-community/
