As promised, I am writing to provide you with our “Phase One” reopening plan for the Community Center and Supervisor’s Office. I have put a lot of thought into how best to serve the residents of the Town of Jay, all while keeping in mind the health and safety of not only residents, but also Town of Jay staff. With that in mind, to follow, are the details of Phase One, which will be effective beginning September 9, 2020.

The Supervisor’s Office will be staffed Monday-Friday from 8:00am to 4:00 pm. We will be available to residents from 9:00 am-4:00 pm. In an effort to limit the number of people in the office at one time, we strongly urge you to call ahead for an appointment before coming in so that we can ensure that we are following the guidelines of social distancing. Please call 518-647-2204 x101 to reach us.

The Town Clerk’s Office will be open for business on Mondays and Wednesdays from 9:00 am – 1:00 pm.,by appointment only. Please call 518-647-2204 x 104 to schedule an appointment with Town Clerk Beatrice Pelkey.

The Assessor’s Office will be open to the public on Tuesday’s from 9:00 am -1:00 pm by appointment only. Please call 518-647-2204 x105 to reach Sole Assessor Timothy Gay.

The Code Enforcement Office will be open by appointment only. You can reach Codes Officer Robbe Baer by calling 518-647-2204 x106.

Tax Collector Susan Richards can be reached via e-mail at, and her office hours will be announced at a later date.

The Community Center Gym will remain closed during this phase.

Please note that all social distancing guidelines will be in place, and masks are required at all times while conducting business in the Community Center. All hard surfaces and restrooms will be disinfected on a regular schedule, and there are hand sanitizer dispensers placed throughout the Community Center.

In closing, I ask you to keep the residents and staff of the Essex Center in your thoughts as they face the challenges ahead. I also ask for your cooperation with the guidelines I have listed for Phase One so that we can ensure the health and safety of both residents and staff as the Town of Jay takes this first step towards reopening.

Stay well,
