Please be advised of the following updates regarding the Jay Water System. The new pump in Well #3 at the Nugent Water Plant was successfully installed along with the pit-less adapter gaskets and o-rings. The well has been clean and redeveloped.
We are under the direction of the Department of Health and they have requested the well be disinfected and two raw water samples be taken for total coliform and e coli. Pending results of the absence of coliform and e coli will determine if we can put Well #3 back in service.
Another issue the Department of Health has determined needs to be addressed is the inspection and cleaning of both the Jay and Upper Jay tanks for fear that there might be sediment in both tanks and the increased volume of water will stir things up to an unsafe level. We have a specialist scheduled to come next week to do this work.
I know this has been extremely inconvenient for all of the water users in both Jay and Upper Jay, but I assure you that we are doing everything that we can to get service restored as soon as possible.
In the meantime, please remember that we still have the tanker at the Upper Jay Firehouse filled with fresh drinking water.
