NYSEG Smart Meters
Last week, I attended an informational meeting with NYSEG regarding the upcoming upgrade to Smart Meters. Installations are scheduled to begin at the end of this month and continue through the end of August. NYSEG will notify customers ahead of time so they can prepare for a brief power outage during installation. These new meters will provide accurate monthly readings, automatically alert NYSEG of outages and help improve overall service. An informational open house will be held at the Community Center onĀ Tuesday, April 29th.

Wastewater Upgrade
Construction has officially begun on the Disinfection and Phosphorus Removal Upgrade at the Wastewater Plant (attached photo). This project has been a long time in the making, involving detailed engineering and pre-construction planning with MJ Engineering, financing coordination with the NYS Environmental Facilities Corporation (EFC), and persistent efforts to secure additional funding through Essex County Community Resources. The Town of Black Brook has been a dedicated partner throughout the process, helping ensure the project remains as cost-effective as possible for district users. The disinfection building is expected to go up this month, with most of the work completed by fall.

Village Green Lighting Project
Beginning Monday, Schumacher Construction will start work on the lighting and electrical upgrades at the Jay Village Green. The project includes new electrical service to provide more reliable power to the Band Stand for concerts, as well as convenient outlets around the Green for community events. The old, rotting light poles will be replaced with eight new decorative lights. The project is expected to be completed within a couple of weeks.

Wishing you a great weekend,
Matt
