This past weekend was Ironman Lake Placid and the Town of Jay was full of people and businesses looked busy leading up to race day. On Thursday, as I pulled into Tops for some last minute items, the parking lot was full. It was a nice weekend to watch such a great event in our town. The Covered Bridge was the focal point of many videos and pictures like the one included in this report. I have been told about many racers and spectators finding and shopping at local businesses and farms. I know there is an inconvenience that comes with the added traffic, however, the economic benefit is not only to our local businesses, but to the tax revenue that helps the town, county and state. This event was planned in such a way that no location would be “trapped” due to complete road closures. I will be supporting this race and this course for future events.
This morning I met with Cassie Walker, the Associate Director of Legislative Affairs, from the NYS Attorney General’s Office. We discussed a range of issues including DEI initiatives, broadband deployment, infrastructure and utilities. As part of these discussions we talked about how being a small rural community competing against larger communities for grant funds is difficult. She is bringing these issues back to Albany. It was a great meeting and now I have someone to turn to for future problems!
The Town of Jay Highway Department is still seeking additional applicants for the 2 open MEO positions. These positions start at $24.50 per hour with a great benefits package.
