This past week the Town of Jay held its Regular Board Meeting. If you would like to watch, it is available on our website: https://www.townofjayny.gov/meeting-minutes. Water and Sewer Superintendent Paul Mintz decided to do a show and tell during his report about the influent and output of the wastewater treatment plant. Leave it to Paul to think bringing raw sewage to a meeting was interesting! Acting Highway Superintendent Chris Sorrell informed the board that both the new Case Loader and new International Tandem Plow truck have been delivered and are being put into service soon. Several other topics and project updates were discussed.
I worked with Essex County Community Resources to submit our Crest Grant application for $125,000 for upgrades to the basketball/tennis courts at Douglas Memorial Park. The quote that was submitted with this application included a new and larger surface for playing basketball, tennis and pickleball. This would include new fencing, nets and backboards for the area. We would also like to add lights to the playing surface as well as the parking lot area near it.
The upgrade to the wastewater treatment plant is finally moving forward. The DEC has signed off on the engineering and approved our financing plan for phase 1. We passed a resolution to put this project out to bid, therefore, MJ Engineering will be moving forward on releasing the bid package. Once bids are received, we hope to have the bid awarded by mid-summer for the construction to begin this fall. It will be good to see this project finally taking off.
Lastly, the AuSable Valley School Budget vote and School Board Elections are next Tuesday, May 21st from 12:00pm to 9:00pm at the Middle/High School Cafeteria. Please exercise your right to vote.
